A Family Affair
I witnessed an unique moment in family lives of Rhinos recently, at Manas national park. We were concluding our day long Jeep ride filled with rains and some good sightings. Suddenly a Rhino calf and mother emerged on to the dirt road and they were followed by a big male rhino , presumably the father.
They walked ahead of our vehicle for more than half an hour and were not ready to leave the path. The father tried many times to take the lead and move into the grassland but the mother and calf kept on moving ahead without paying attention to us or the male rhino. The calf and the male rhino looked back at us many times curiously. But the female was minding her own business.
After constant efforts of the male and walking at least a kilometer , the female rhino obliged and moved out of the way and followed the male into the grassland.
