Life before birth
Encased in her transparent “bubble-egg”, under torrential rains, a lone Amboli Bush froglet was curling up for one final night before taking birth into our world. Eggs are max 4mm in size no bigger than a grain and are generally laid in a cluster. It was remarkable seeing the incredibly small under-developed frogs move inside the eggs every now and then. Got goosebumps to experience creation of life, first hand, in front of me. This frog specie does not metamorphose through tadpole phase. Amboli Bush Frogs are rare shrub frog species endemic to the western ghats and are currently recorded as Endangered in the IUCN Red list.
