Master of camouflage
The Indian nightjar is a common species found across India, except at high elevations or in very dense forests. this palm-sized brownish bird sits so still on the ground that it is not easy to spot it even at a short distance.
It flies after sundown with an easy, silent moth-like flight. During the day, Indian nightjar lies still on the ground, concealed by its plumage; it is then difficult to detect, blending in with the soil.
