Monsoon Clouds,City Lights and the Leopard
It’s been 2-3 years since we’ve(@thegrasslandstrust) been tracking these elusive creatures near Dive Ghat.Earlier home to wolves, the increased plantation, excessive rainfall etc have transformed this habitat into an ideal place for Leopards. These hills are directly connected to Katraj ,Sinhagad which has made it possible for Leopards to move in and out of scrublands rather easily.Watching and tracking Leopards so close to the city in scrubs was a tough job as they hardly ever left any pugmarks and would completely disappear during the day time. For the first 1.5 years we hadn’t even seen a leopard here but the constant efforts led to some good documentation. The population of these big cats is growing day by day and being one of the most adaptable animals out there they’re surviving in almost all habitats around the city.
