Long-nosed Vine Snake
Once classified as Ahaetulla nasuta, a study in 2020 has since revealed the common green vine snake to be a complex comprising of several species.
The Long-nosed Vine Snake is one of its derivatives and is geographically distributed throughout the lowland forests of Peninsular India.
Although morphologically identical, these new species are distinguishable based on the unique range of distribution and genetic profile.
The entire lineage of Vine Snakes (Ahaetulla) is said to have evolved over 25 million years ago during the Oligocene period.
