Not the greatest of photos, not captured with the best camera or a super-telephoto lens. Still, I consider this special as it was a life-changing experience. I had spotted tigers in Ranthambore back in 2016. Somehow, this experience felt different. First, There wasn’t any hope since it was winter, and spotting in Kabini that week was sparse, unlike my previous outing, where there were spotting every day. There weren’t 20 plus jeeps and canters filled with impatient onlookers waiting for the cat to wake up. Just one vehicle; all of us lucky to see this recent mother pop out of the bushes and crossed onto the other side without even a sideways glance. It was pretty surreal, a mystic fell – the misty forest, the sudden surprise, and of course, a decent capture (in spite of my gear – old Nikon D5100 and 50-200mm lens).
It changed me forever. It wasn’t just the tiger crossing moment; the awe, the shock, the surprise…. the instant I decided to take the wildlife plunge.
